Dr. Vedula Satyananda Rao

Dr. Vedula Satyananda Rao was born on November 20, 1920. He received his degree in science from Andhra University, India. He holds a Doctor of Medicine and a Master of Surgery degree in Homeopathic Science from Chicago Medical College of Homeopathy in Calcutta, India; and other graduate degrees in Business Management and Accounting Dr. Rao is the founding Director of The High-Tech Yoga Institute, a non-profit Yoga Educational, Spiritual and Charitable Institution. Dr. Rao is an associate of "Yogacharya" B. K. S. Iyenger, Swami Rama, Dr. Ramamurty Misra (Swami Brahamananda) and many other contemporary masters of yoga . Dr. Rao has studied Yoga since his early childhood. He met Professor Mohan, an ardent devotee of Sri Ram Lalji Maharaj of Rishikesh, India, in 1938. Sri Mohan took Dr. Rao to Sri Ram Lalji who initiated him into Raja Yoga. Since then, Dr. Rao has experienced the grace and blessings of his Master through the continuous practice of Yoga. After Sri Ram Lalji entered Mahasamadhi (yogi's final exit from the physical body), Dr. Rao went to Swami Sivananda Saraswati of Rishikesh, India to have further instructions in Jnana Yoga and the Upanishads. Dr. Rao has trained many students who are now teaching Yoga in many parts of India, the U.S., and Europe. He has given many lectures on the science of Yoga that have been compiled as Sri Prabhuji's Lectures Divine. He has also contributed many articles to various Yoga publications. Dr. Rao is also the examiner of Certificate, Diploma and Degree courses in Yoga offered by the S.V. University, Tirupati, India. While living in India he was the Editor of "Yogasadhan", a quarterly journal and publication of Rajayogasadhanashran, Alamuru, India. Dr. Rao came to United States in 1982 and currently lives in Lowell, Massachusetts. As well as teaching and lecturing on Yoga throughout the Northeast, he has lectured at Harvard University and been invited to speak at various places in India, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and United States. For the past many years, he has also been a guest lecturer at many national and international Yoga conferences. Dr. Rao is the second son of Srimati Subba Lakshmi and Sri Rama Sastry, who was one of the greatest Sanskrit and Telugu scholars of Andhra Pradesh, India. Dr Rao was married to Srimati Parvata Vardhanamma who was a very devoted wife and mother. She cooperated with her husband in various spiritual activities until her passing away in 1980. They have two daughters and three sons. |
